The number of graduates (both new and recent) who are looking for work is increasing. The number of job opportunities for graduates in the current marketplace is falling. It does not take a genius to work out that there will be less choice of jobs for graduates and it will harder for them to find a good career opportunity. As a result, more graduates are looking into a wider range of career paths. A sector which is still growing however is recruitment and so more graduates are considering recruitment as a career.

The Problem

If a graduate is considering recruitment as a career there are a number of problems. Firstly, it is very hard to know what a career in recruitment will really be like and what a graduate can expect if they join a recruitment company both long and short term. This is exasperated by the fact that the recruitment industry is incredibly diverse with a large number of companies of various sizes, culture and sector. The result is that often graduates just don’t follow through in researching the recruitment sector and may well miss out on great opportunities, or, perhaps even worse, join a recruitment company but it just does not turn out to be what they expected.
