Typically, we want our candidates to call us as soon as possible after the interview.  This allows us to debrief them whilst the interview is still fresh in their mind and before we speak to our client.  However, if they call us as they leave the interview they will have had little opportunity to internally process what has just gone on – this isn’t a huge issue but does mean that their responses can be emotive rather than considered.  When we open by asking, “how did the interview go?” don’t expect an immediately reasoned view, but it is good for us to understand their initial feelings. Remember, the quicker the feedback from the candidate, the quicker you will be able to speak to the client to get their thoughts.
