Sales and recruitment are great examples of jobs that are reasonably simple in concept – but extremely hard to apply at a superior level of performance. As a result, after a couple of years in the job, a recruiter has probably acquired the majority of skills and techniques which are required. To then keep searching for the ‘magic’ skills, the ‘secrets of top billers’ is just about impossible. So that is why it is important to think in an advanced way, rather than try to develop advance techniques.
Whilst the theme of superior thinking is particularly relevant for this module, it is a common theme that is touched upon in a number of the modules within VTR. Thinking in a superior way requires structures and tools to think with, and the ‘conscious competence’ model is just one example of how you can improve your thought process and attitude towards your job that you will find throughout VTR.
