Recruiters have a tendency to discount for their clients to win or retain business and typically refer to this as “negotiating.”  Bear in mind that there is no negotiation here!  You have discounted the rate for the client but got nothing in return.   So If you are prepared to compromise on rate make sure you get something back in return – try to get a commitment on future roles, exclusivity or flexibility on the job itself.  Whatever you push for, make sure you get something to justify the discount and ensure that a proper negotiation has taken place.
