How to give yourself the winning edge as a recruiter – Part 2

In the second part of ‘how to give yourself the winning edge as a recruiter’, we discuss the next steps for defining you success strategy. The aim of this series is to give recruiters specific operational techniques that will improve performance.

Tip 4 – Name gathering

As a recruiter it’s important to be proactive – you can’t expect to find suitable candidates for new roles using a two year old database! Winning edge recruiters know the importance of constantly building their candidate pool and using creative methods to do so – your 2 watchwords are frequency & variety – so put your creative thinking hat on!

Tip 5 – Candidate contact

Contacting a candidate to discuss a specific opportunity is a key part of the process – but make sure that you do not oversell! Play it a bit cool, don’t sound desperate and avoid too many positive affirmations. ‘That’s brilliant, perfect, just what they are looking for etc’… can lead to candidates feeling a bit too special!

Tip 6 – Candidate profile

Finding out more about candidates is an essential part of the recruiting process, but with very limited time to do so, it’s all too easy to miss out on key information by asking the wrong questions. A winning edge recruiter knows how to be smart with their time and ask questions which will elicit insightful responses.

Here are some of our favourite questions:

When were you happiest in your career?

What top 3 things would you want your next role to consist of?

Where do you see yourself in 3 years if you were to move into another organisation?
